A Hunter's Blade, Six Sentence Sunday

Six Sentence Sunday

Hello, welcome to Six Sentence Sunday. You can find other fine writers sharing snippets of their work here.

These six are from my current release A Hunter’s Blade and pick up a few paragraphs into the story from last week’s SSS selection, and this is in Austin’s POV.

Had they made love six times? He’d always had stamina but now… Damn, he wanted her all over again.

He kissed her neck to her ear as his hands slid down her back to the curve of her ass.

She moaned and pushed slightly on his chest. “Austin, we need to talk.”

Oh-oh, I get the feeling she doesn’t want to talk about his stamina…

Today, I’m sharing a snippet and an excerpt from my new release, A Hunter’s Blade. I got a surprise on October 2 when my book released 3 months early on Amazon! Stay tuned for an excerpt below the blurb.

“Damn. That wasn’t sex. That was a religious experience.”

Brigit turned the stream off since it had long ago chilled and slipped her arms around Austin’s neck. She laughed because she could never let him know just how profoundly the experience had affected her, too. He made her feel things no man ever had before. “You no doubt say that to every woman who’s ever rocked your world.”

Excerpt:

“Why don’t you enlighten me?”

She glowered at him for several moments. Then she closed her eyes and spoke in a language he didn’t understand. Before he knew it, a fire sparked to life in the old stone hearth across the room. A second later, he flew out of his chair and shoved hard against the edge of the bar behind him.

He struggled against the invisible restrains, but she’d taken him completely off guard. He was powerless to break free.

Standing, she kicked the chair to the side and stalked toward him. She could kill him right here and now, but…holy hell, she was damned sexy.

She stopped in front of him and growled, “Let’s get something established about werewolves. There are two kinds. The lesser wolves who are made. And the Lykan who are born. I’m not one of the degenerates. I was born a Lykan in 1647. The first child of Valeriu and Elena. I’m an alpha and you are nothing more than a fledgling just hatched.”

He broke free of her power by drawing on his own. When he moved toward her, Austin held his hands to his side, ready to grab the special knife he had sheathed inside his jacket. His fangs had long ago descended ready for a fight. “I don’t really give a flying fuck whether you were made, born, or hatched.”

When the energy of her power touched him again, he pulled the knife, and the silver blade caught the dim light of the fire in the hearth when he opened the long switchblade. “I want to know if you’re the one preying on these people.”

Her eyes widened and she backed up a step as he approached. “I told you I didn’t attack those humans. I haven’t killed a mortal in over a hundred years. How many innocents have you snacked on tonight? How many of them did you want to kill?”

“I don’t hurt my prey,” he said through clenched teeth and held her icy gaze. He’d never let her know battling the beast within every feeding was the hardest thing he’d ever done.

After forcing himself to take a deep breath, he lowered the knife and released some of the tension zinging through his body. “If you didn’t kill those people then you have nothing to worry about. Best way to figure out who did is by working together.” He put the silver blade away, and his fangs retracted.

“What do you have planned?”

He didn’t miss the slight quiver in her voice. He should finish all this right here and now so he could get back to Ireland and whatever life he’d scraped together, but something needled him into doing a thorough investigation.

“We begin with you telling me everything you remember from those nights you became the big, bad wolf.”

A Hunter's Angel, Six Sentence Sunday

Six Sentence Sunday

Happy Sunday!  Here we are again sharing six sentences. Check out other authors at Six Sentence Sunday.

Today, I’m sharing six from my current release, A Hunter’s Angel.

Set Up:  Grace, the Clayton, PA police chief, and Ian McHenry, FBI special agent-in-charge, are discussing the possiblity that the serial killer in Clayton is similar to one they’d worked together in catching a year before in Philly.

For a split second, she thought she saw longing in his October-blue eyes. Stop it. That’s what I want to see.

“Vampirism is not all that uncommon,” she said. “Several people in places like New Orleans and Transylvania are arrested yearly because they’re convinced they’re vampires. Some of them have gone as far as committing murder living out their fantasy, like Cavanaugh.”

The irony in all this…. Cavanaugh just thought he was a vampire…. The FBI agent she’s trying to convince….IS a vampire.

The serial killer stalking Clayton, Pennsylvania, isn’t all that has Chief of Police Grace Wallace worried. For a year, she’s tried to forget Special Agent Ian McHenry and now he’s the expert the FBI sent to catch the killer. She can’t stay away from him, but something primal is telling her to run to save much more than just her heart. Despite the strict code of ethics Ian vowed to follow as a vampire hunter, he craves Grace’s blood above all others. If he chooses to stay, Ian risks losing his chance at divine forgiveness. But if he leaves Grace unprotected from the evil he’s hunted for over a century, he loses more than just his soul…

Coffeetime Romance Reviews   5 cups

A Hunter’s Angel is an enticing good read. I absolutely love the characters, especially Ian and the way he is painted. Ian is a protector any woman would cherish. The way he and Grace bond, with their on and off situation, is written with great dialogue and intensity, making the story thoroughly engaging as they forge full swing into some thrilling events. Ms. DuBois pens a convincing story that fascinates with action-packed suspense and romance that sears the pages.

Also check out Romance Writer Sara Walter Ellwood for six sentences from January 7 contemporary Western release, Gambling On A Secret (book 1 of The Colton Gamblers)

I received my release date for A Hunter’s Blade. It will be available January 2.  Yes, that’s right 5 days before Gambling On A Secret. I have a feeling January will going to shape up to being one very interesting month as I promo two books, not only from different genres but also published under different names.

This is from Chapter 3. Last week we got Austin’s response when he saw Brigit for the first time. This shows how their first meeting went down. Can we say some fur flew?

“Not so fast, puppy.”

She faced him with her hands fisted at her sides. “You think because you’re one of Lucas Pomeroy’s pet bats you’re so much better than the rest of us.”

He smirked and set his glass on the bar as he said, “You do  know I can’t turn into a bat, don’t you?”

She rolled her eyes, and he chuckled, infuriating her further.

“I follow a different code of ethics, you could say, than most of the damned and undead.”

I’m also revealing the cover for the first time! Isn’t it beautiful!

For those of you who had read A Hunter’s Angel, Austin is Brad. He changed his name to get out of the country with Lucas and Vivian and kept the alias.

“She’s the werewolf?” Austin looked back at the girl. She couldnt’ be more than twenty-two. “I’ll be damned.” He picked up his glass and took a chug of the wine. “She sure as hell blew my stereotype of a werewolf out the window.”

“I hate serial killers.”

“Don’t we all,” Ben said and shoved his hands into his pockets. “Who’d ever thought this could happen here? They’re all so young. And the bodies are illconcealed, as if the bastard wants them found.”

“We have a psychopath who’s teasing us.”
